Date: Wed, 1 May 2002 09:38:36 -0400 (EDT) From: Louis Epstein Subject: Twin Towers notes...Demonstration Opportunity? I am forwarding a message below because the sender wanted it to go to "everyone"...not very much useful content, probably, but note the availability of the NOVA videos...also,one can send comments to nova@wgbh.org (urging that they look at how to apply the lessons of why the towers fell to building stronger towers). It's in the news today that a government engineeering report has looked at possibile improvements in fire safety concerning the Towers' collapse...fireproofing adhering to steel beams, stronger and better-spaced fire escape routes...but the spin on it is bad, saying the report will likely "have a chilling effect on skyscraper construction",rather than guide the way for more of it. However, the main point of this email, which I intended to let you all know about before,is the event announced by http://www.renewnyc.com/press/04-29-02forum.htm ... a large-scale,stage-managed "public hearing" by the Whitehead group. Called "Listening to the City II",it will feature five thousand CAREFULLY SELECTED people going to the Javits Center to give their views on the reconstruction. I think we need to work this both on the inside and the outside...try to get pro-rebuilding supporters through the screening process, and try to get press for the way the anti-rebuilders are trying to stifle pro-rebuilding voices as they have from the beginning. Which angle to play more strongly depends on what response is achieved in the process...but this event in July will be a high-profile attempt to make sure Al-Qaida get their way on the future return of the Towers, and we can't let it go the way Whitehead and friends want. Leaflets,T-shirts,placards,whatever...let's make sure that the anti-rebuilders have to walk through pro-rebuilders to their meeting on the day!! ---------- Begin forwarded message ---------- Date: Wed, 1 May 2002 00:03:45 EDT From: BakerQebtcb@ Hi Everyone. I've watched that show on PBS and I had hoped that there would be even just a hint that the Twin Towers may rise again, but there was nothing! Even though the main topic was to expose the reason why the Twin Towers came down in the first place, and ninety percent of us knew or at least figured it out, we still know nothing about the future plans for Ground Zero. A lot of stuff has been talked about, but nothing is definite as yet. They still have yet to decide what to do with Ground Zero. Former mayor Rudolph Gulianni had visited Harvard University about a few weeks ago and his thoughts on Ground Zero were ( and I'm not at all surprised that he would say this ), "Don't rebuild. Plan a memorial for the victims and their families, but I don't think that rebuilding is the answer." But anyway, for those of you who missed "Why the Towers Fell", which aired on PBS tonight, you can order the video of the same title for $19.95. Just log onto www.pbs.org and follow the instructions for ordering the tape. The Twin Towers must rise again, or terrorism has triumphed! Talk to you soon! Tannis. ----------End forwarded message ---------- -=--=- The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again, at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.
