Date: Sun, 9 Jun 2002 23:44:37 -0400 (EDT) From: Louis Epstein Subject: Latest WTC-Related Developments... A few items... My comments regarding the Coulter column were eventually posted there, and I found a batch of additional pro-rebuilders who had posted their addresses and added them to this list... as ever, anyone on it will be promptly removed on request. I first started this mailing list, checking my records, back on September 15th,though things have grown much more active lately. I am,this time, doing what some people have suggested, though I am not comfortable hiding people's addresses from each other. The full list of well over 400 names compiled since the attacks is now in blind-carbon-copy...the two people I was already acquainted with well before the 11th,support rebuilding, and I often have cc'ed on list emails now appear as the addressees. I realize that this will make some of your email clients think this is "not for you",and I hope will not get it sorted into a junk file...in the longer term I do plan to get the mailman software on my server configured and running. Other web boards of interest remain active. http://www.cbsnewyork/message/ground/ http://www.theopinion.com/newyorkcityskyline/ http://pps.org/downtownnyc/ However, while networking with fellow pro-rebuilders is important,"preaching to the choir" doesn't spread the word where it makes a difference. Today I spoke with Randy Warner, the President of Team Twin Towers. Randy informed me that they continue to raise money for their non-profit organization. For those who wish to contribute, send your donations to: Team Twin Towers 1369 Madison Avenue #238 New York, NY 10128 The website, once again,is http://www.teamtwintowers.org/ and they are the most organized pro-rebuilding group out there. He mentioned their Los Angeles fundraiser planned for next month, and of course we expect to see some people in TTT shirts at the Listening to the City event July 20th! They have a petition linked from their website. Bill Hough sent me the following from the http://www.imaginenewyork.org/ site: ==== Thank you to all Imagine New York participants, facilitators and workshop hosts for helping to make Imagine New York a success. We have compiled what you said, what you wrote to us, what you posted on our website. At the summit on June 1, nearly 300 participants came back together to finalize the vision statements that will appear in the report to decision-makers. The report will be released at a public forum on Monday, June 10 at 5:30 p.m. at the Urban Center, 457 Madison Avenue. The forum will include a brief summary of the results and a panel of respondents who will comment on the report. Space is limited; for reservations, please call (212) 750-3972. === PEOPLE IN NYC...TRY TO ATTEND! The announcement tomorrow is supposed to be synchronized with the publication of the "vision statements" on the web. Tuesday,June 11th,is the live Java chat with Lower Manhattan chief planner Alexander Garvin at the http://www.gothamgazette.com/rebuilding_nyc/ website... THEY HAVE CHANGED THE TIME TO 3:30 PM EASTERN (when I emailed about this before,it was at noon), still one hour in length. The chat itself will be at http://www.gothamgazette.com/chat.shtml. Questions for him will be submitted to a moderator, either there or in advance via rebuilding@gothamgazette.com. They have now added a profile of Garvin... on the somewhat worrisome side,he looks at this project saying "we have a chance to start all over again", but on the other,he says his inspiration for it is Daniel "let us make no small dreams" Burnham. As I noted a couple of days ago,the revised "Draft Principles and Preliminary Blueprint for the Future of Lower Manhattan" he is in charge of was supposed to be out last week, but has yet to appear at the http://www.renewnyc.org/ website...keep your eyes peeled for it! It is with this document in hand that we can compose our comments to renewnyc@empire.state.ny.us regarding the "Phase I Request For Proposals" (deadline for these comments is June 26th).And when we see it,we will see if the May 23rd public hearing had a good effect on the Draft, which made no mention of rebuilding the Towers but gave priority to values often inconsistent with their reconstruction. And of course...ANYONE who is pro-rebuilding/pro-Towers and can spend July 20th at the Javits Center,is strongly urged to register for "Listening to the City II" if they have not done so,and mobilize any pro-Towers friends into taking as many seats at that event as possible! (Registering's free...the organizers will provide breakfast and lunch!) CALL 800-862-3154 or email listening@civic-alliance.org or sign up on the web at http://www.listeningtothecity.org/ ! I'll keep in touch with whatever updates come to hand! -=-=- The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again, at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.
