Date: Wed, 3 Jul 2002 10:11:27 -0400 (EDT) From: Louis Epstein Subject: WTC:News,Web Commentary Opportunities http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/talking_point/newsid_2088000/2088142.stm is a "Talking Point" opportunity to come out in favor of rebuilding in a rather high profile site...they take a while to post comments but we want the board to be mainly pro-rebuilding when it's posted! Not sure how long they will keep taking comments,so don't delay. Keep an eye on http://pps.org/downtownnyc/ (select "Give Your Input", "World Trade Center Site",and "Read Comments and Add Your Own")...as I have said,it's especially useful if people who havn't posted yet chime in here.An interesting recent contribution comes from Nathan Meryash. Also check out the site's "Free-Form Discussion". This site is closely followed by the Civic Alliance who are organizing the "Listening to the City II" event, and who have at last posted the minutes of their June 24th meeting... an interesting tidbit is that as of June 17th only 756 seats of the 5,000 available for the July 20th LTTC II had been taken...which means we have even greater opportunity for influencing it if we can turn out our troops better than the other guys! REGISTER IF YOU CAN SPEND JULY 20TH AT THE JAVITS CENTER!! 800-862-3154!!! GET PRO-REBUILDING FRIENDS TO DO THE SAME! I say that pretty often, but remember, the future of the site hangs in the balance!! A rather lengthy article has been published by the Philadelphia Inquirer,it may still be available at http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/front/3584958.htm if you hurry.(Thanks to Jim Wilson for alerting me). It mentions that the Port Authority wants the 10 million square feet of office space back, and is thus prepared to condemn surrounding sites to build it if they can't get it on the WTC site. Now,Silverstein's lease only covers the WTC site,so if they build so that they own as much space as they used to but his lease no longer covers more than a fraction of it,they're giving him a raw deal...seems to me this would encourage him to favor solutions that see the whole lost office space made up in the area he has leased.(I'd prefer the space in the smaller buildings be added to taller new Twins,to save ground space...I'm baffled by Argus Sventon's concept that crowds 1-7 WTC away from the old Tower footprints but within the superblock(yes, moving 7 WTC south of Vesey Street and eastward, with the old shorter height and larger footprint!)) I've got a letter in my local newspaper denouncing Pataki and calling for new Twins that should appear July 11th (it's a weekly). The teamtwintowers.org site now notes that their Los Angeles fundraiser has been set for July 31st. Keep in touch, keep pushing for rebuilding... -=-=- The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again, at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.
