Date: Fri, 26 Jul 2002 19:56:10 -0400 (EDT) From: Louis Epstein Subject: WTC Rebuilding News & Notes Last night, after sending out the most recent list email, I learned that Gotham Gazette had rescheduled the java-chat with Deputy Mayor Doctoroff from July 31st to August 15th. I quickly reflected this on the resource link list at http://www.put.com/wtc/ but felt yet ANOTHER list email yesterday would be inappropriate. More New York Post stuff: http://www.nypost.com/news/regionalnews/45821.htm (Silverstein indicates he could accept a reduction in space, but it's mainly about gripes about the planning process) http://www.nypost.com/postopinion/editorial/45733.htm (The process is a mess...but Salman Rushdie is pro-Twin Towers!) Marcella Mellos is looking for people to help run petition/literature tables near the Federal Hall exhibit while it's running, after it closes Jen Thorpe can get the tables set up at Columbia University.Joe Wright has volunteered to be part of this effort already, but more NYC-based warm bodies are welcome.Write to me if interested and I'll pass it on to them. Andrew Oliff has done a mockup of a "MISSING:OUR TWINS" poster that might be a good "apron" for the tables. If you're out of the NYC area REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN AND SHOULD REGISTER FOR AND PARTICIPATE IN the web-based dialogue at http://dialogues.listeningtothecity.org/ in the very near future; this is how you can do your part!!! If refused permission to register, let me know. The signature count on Eli Attia's appeal for an open design competition is booming...almost 7000 last I checked. Not sure how many are pro-Towers (as he is) but it's certain there are a significant number. Joe Wright has raised the issue of a full page advertisement in the New York Times urging rebuilding...this would nudge just into the six-figure range in price, what do people think about this as potential bang for buck? Any thoughts on web polls? http://www.9-11peoplesplan.org/ has an anti-towers rebuilding plan that requests public input with room for comments.Time to give them some. See you on the 111th floor on 9-11-11! -=-=- The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again, at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.
