Date: Sat, 27 Jul 2002 12:03:17 -0400 (EDT) From: Louis Epstein Subject: WTC Rebuilding News and Opportunities A couple more items...both the NY Times and Post have reported that Pataki has come out in support of shifting some of the office space off the old superblock by condemning surrounding properties...again,keeping the space requirement on the superblock high is an important ingredient in squeezing the buildings there taller. Ex-Mayor Giuliiani,in the relevant Post article (http://nypost.com/news/regionalnews/19744.htm) has now come out on the extreme arch-memorialist side,he wants nothing but a memorial on the 16 acres.SHAME!!! The Post has decided to make its Saturday letter columns special for public opinion on what should be built, according to http://nypost.com/postopinion/letters/19706.htm (this week Towers fans maintain a clear lead, let's use the special address rebuild@nypost.com and make sure this keeps up!!) Of course we need to send our expressions of support for monumental-scale rebuilding flowing wherever it can help, including in the site plan commentaries and the online-LTTC dialogue. Addresses are at http://www.put.com/wtc/ . Volunteers for literature and petition tables are still needed, let me know.Approaching people at the Fed Hall exhibit to steer them to the table should be tasteful and careful. DON'T assume someone else will do it for you... a critical mass of raised voices is the only way we'll keep the pressure on.The other side will try to wiggle out any way they can...Tomson dodged and weaved at the Gotham Gazette chat, first saying (when rebuilding the Towers was suggested) they hadn't decided how to respond to the monumental-skyline-presence desire, then indicating that they were very unlikely to build on the old footprints and he assumed that was the only place in which rebuilding the Towers was being suggested. -=-=- The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again, at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.
