Date: Tue, 6 Aug 2002 00:33:36 -0400 (EDT) From: Louis Epstein Subject: WTC Rebuilding Dialogues I've been tracking the online-LTTC debates, and they finally opened a poll today that asks if people want new towers to be taller than before, about as tall, shorter, not there,or no opinion...EVEN IF YOU GOT REJECTED YOU CAN STILL LOG IN AND VOTE ON THIS IF YOU REGISTERED BEFORE. (Tal Barzilai has said he hasn't been assigned a group, but he can probably vote too...let me know,Tal?) Of course this is still twistable. I can see the results Taller 31% About Same 30% Shorter 21% and the announcement "A majority have voted to have the new Towers be about the same or shorter, and as the most cost-effective,diversely inclusive,touchy-feely way of taking care of this,we're going to build shorter!...See how we listened to the people?" The "polls close" late Tuesday afternoon. "TomV" from one of the new Online-LTTC groups was writing about the pro-Towers movement this evening...felt he was drawn to us by our passion but predicted we would "pop like a balloon" if the vote went against us online tomorrow. I think we will keep fighting no matter what!! Paul Blair has asked that I point out his recent letter in the NY Post that brings up the issue of defending the commercial space allocation.I know a kid going by "rebuildtwintowers" on a new Online-LTTC group made reducing the commercial space part of what he advocated, but as I've said, the more commercial space has to be on the 16 acres the taller the buildings will be. (Erik Sieb's design produces 13 million square feet in just one three-legged structure that uses a fraction of the space). Of course,Online-LTTC is just one phase of the ongoing struggle. The petition/literature tables should be starting soon, and Gary Taustine of gramercynews.com will soon be selling his rebuild memorabilia(not just shirts) with proceeds donated to the FDNY. DON'T forget to write and send in site plan comments no matter where you are,see http://www.put.com/wtc/ for addresses and deadlines(no announcement that Aug 19th has been postponed yet). See you on the 111th floor on 9-11-11! -=-=- The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again, at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.
