Date: Sat, 17 Aug 2002 21:59:34 -0400 (EDT) From: Louis Epstein Subject: WTC Rebuilding...Today's News The Staten Island,Brooklyn, and Bronx hearings are coming up Tuesday,Wednesday, and Thursday.Who's going to be there? Ron Devito I assume will tackle Staten Island? Bronx is Monica Iken's home borough and she needs to be counteracted...how close is that site to Metro-North? Will any of the petition/literature volunteers be attending hearings this week?Does anyone who will attend hearings want to print out http://www.put.com/wtc/petition.html and try to get signatures at the hearings? WCBS radio has dropped mention of the gubernatorial-primary debate scheduled for tomorrow that they had been soliciting questions for. Today's weekly rebuilding letter column at nypost.com once again had a definite majority of pro-rebuilders...there was the tired old "I have one question, who'd work on the 110th floor?" from an anti, but multiple statements of willingness to do so from pro-rebuilders. While they said they'd take letters to rebuild@nypost.com for each Saturday until the anniversary they are now asking for what-will-you- do-to-mark-the-11th letters to anniversary@nypost.com. Their general letters address remains letters@nypost.com (which could use some responses criticizing the sacred-to-bedrock posturing of the "Coalition of 9/11 Families" who wrote in wanting railroad tracks moved out of the tower footprints). The NY Daily News has printed an op-ed from the vice president of the 911wvfa.org group saying he wants the site to be a national park. Joe Wright sent me a string of NY Times articles trying to put the momentum-is-toward-smaller-stuff spin on things, We have to keep getting our message out there, spreading the word until turning deaf ears to it becomes impossible.Bury them in mail! The woman who told me about the hearings yesterday said categorizing emails that came in was something many Whitehead aides were working on, and she acknowledged the pro-tall-towers sentiment of the Online-LTTC. I found a quote from Roland Betts (Yale classmate of the President, big Republican contributor,I guess that's why he's getting the spotlight on the new design competition) saying that they wouldn't necessarily say no to a really great design that built on the old footprints. Now how about a really great design that restores all the lost office space?? This design competition apparently is getting influenced by New York New Visions(http://nynv.aiga.org/ is their site) which I have occasionally mentioned to the email list. Some feedback to them urging taller towers could be useful! On a more positive note, the site http://www.9-11peoplesplan.org/ used to have a shorter-than-before design for the site but in response to comments from me and other pro-rebuilders they have redone it to have new tall towers! I recommend positive feedback on this. Even if you're halfway around the planet, do NOT forget to send site plan comments urging taller towers to lmdc@empire.state.ny.us or the snail mail addresses listed at http://www.put.com/wtc/ ! -=-=- The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again, at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.
