Date: Wed, 28 Aug 2002 18:16:57 -0400 (EDT) From: Louis Epstein Subject: WTC Rebuilding #95:Hearings,Message Boards,Archives,More From now on I intend to number list emails...I have now archived past ones at http://www.put.com/wtc/archive.html and will continue to post messages to the archive with a deliberate lag to prevent time-sensitive news for rebuilders being abused by anti-rebuilders reading the web. Tomorrow is the date of two events...The New York One meeting at the Embassy Suites in Battery Park City, televised for an hour from 8 PM,which is for Lower Manhattan residents and workers and survivors and recovery workers from the disaster...the Queens site plan hearing is at 6:30 PM at LaGuardia Community College Performing Arts Center on Thomson Street in Long Island City. I hope pro-rebuilding voices are strongly raised at each! I got a query today about buildthetowers.org,is that site having problems? "Riffmaster" has now set up a new backup site, linked at http://www.put.com/wtc/ as "NYCS Backup Site 2" right after Izeklah's problem-plagued effort,in order to frustrate the people who've caused trouble on the NYCS board proper. Meanwhile, the Ikonboard forums on the NYSTC site seem to have taken off,and the Gotham Gazette forums keep going... I've tangled a bit with a "Ray Asimov" (no relation to Isaac that I can trace,I have all of Isaac's auto-bio volumes) who is curiously contradictory...he wants a new taller-than-ever tower on the site, but he also embraces, feels up,and deep-kisses mega-memorialism,saying any plan should treat the entire site as a cemetery, not just the footprints. Gotham Gazette doesn't seem to have any new Java-chats scheduled. CNN will be airing a special on the site next week called "16 Acres" that apparently will feature Monica Iken as someone they interview; I don't know if they've spoken to anyone who's on our side! Both CNN's WTC ideas page and Gotham Gazette's "Ground Zero Planner" remain open,I encourage all to add their pro-tall-rebuilding input. I anticipate going into Manhattan again next weekend to help with the leafletting and petition-gathering...possibly starting Friday. Next weekend is the one on which I have for years attended the World Science Fiction Convention except when it's been in Australia; though this has been my one reliable trip away each year,I'm prepared to sacrifice this Worldcon for a cause that I couldn't imagine would exist when I took the Acela Express homeward from last year's in Philadelphia. People outside the NY area, just MAKE SURE YOU'VE SENT IN GOOD PRO-REBUILDING SITE PLAN COMMENTS,see http://www.put.com/wtc/ for the addresses to send them to...I will be done with mine soon and will share them with the list in advance of the September 5th Manhattan hearing at which we need to produce as many pro-rebuilding warm bodies as possible! See you on the 111th floor on 9-11-11! -=-=- The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again, at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.
