Mr. Bloomberg(through your intermediaries): Congratulations on winning election to the mayoralty. I was disturbed to see on your website's "Rebuilding Blueprint" the position that rebuilding on the World Trade Center site would be "probably at a substantially different scale". Unless the structures replacing the Twin Towers are themselves huge twin towers at least as tall as the old ones,we are engaging in a horrendous act of outright surrender to the terrorists! This is a war of symbols.If their destruction of our symbols is allowed to stand as an accomplished fact,it shows that they have won...they have "cut us down to size"...they have "terrorized" us into not daring to undo their deed.Future terrorists will be able to point to the site with pride,seeing it as a demonstration of how we can be humbled. "When you knock New Yorkers down,they stay down,and there's the proof",they'll say.And any counter-argument won't hold water. Anything but huge twin towers on the site would be symbols of national humiliation.We MUST show that they did NOT win,and ONLY replacing the Twin Towers with NEW twin towers at least as tall as the old ones can show that we are not surrendering our will to aspire to the sky. Of course the new structures should be stronger than the old. There are many engineering improvements that can be made, and we should call upon them in creating new towers that will inspire the world. But please...put the thought of building anything shorter out of your head...and if you don't,I hope the U.S. Government forces it out.To build something shorter is to sell out America! -=-=- The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again, at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.
